1965 Summer training in Paul Bocuse’s restaurant.
1968 Commis at «Tante Alice» restaurant.
1976 After two years spent working and discovering the world, particularly the new world, he returns to the "Clos Fleury", the restaurant run by his father near Saint
Etienne which already has a Michelin star.
Birth of his first son, Jan.
1977 He retains the Michelin star.
1978 Publication of Jean-François Abert’s article in the «Lyon-Poche» on one of Pierre’s dishes and Pierre realizes that cooking can really be a means to express himself.
Birth of his second son, Félix.
1981 He decides to go solo and opens a restaurant in the center of Saint Etienne. (located at 3, rue George Teissier) and receives a Michelin star in 1982.
1986 He is awarded a second Michelin star.
Trip to Japan.
1988 First book ‘La cuisine immédiate’ with photos by Daniel Chenot.
1993 The Michelin guide awards his signature cuisine a third star.
Elected ‘chef of the year’ by «Le Chef» magazine.
1996 The Saint Etienne experience draws to an end.
The stars are given back to the Michelin guide. He leaves for Paris.
1997 2 stars rue Balzac.
1998 Back to the three star level.
2001 Beginning of a strong partnership with Hervé This, professor at the Collège de France and father of Molecular Gastronomy.
2002 Opening of the restaurant «Sketch» in London with Mourad Mazouz.
2003 Publication of his second book ‘Sucré-Salé’ with photos by Jean-Louis Bloch-Lainé.
Receives the distinction ‘Commandeur des Arts & Lettres’.
2004 Takes on the management and kitchen of the restaurant «Gaya Rive Gauche par Pierre Gagnaire» in Paris.
2005 Opening of the restaurant «Pierre Gagnaire à Tokyo» in Tokyo.
Receives the distinction ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre du mérite Agricole’.
2006 Opening of the restaurant «Pierre» in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong.
Receives the distinction ‘Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur’.
